Program note:
The music heard in Sòsia has been through several incarnations. Originally, a middle movement of a trio for violin, cello and piano (Testament, 2002), the violin part was then integrated into a work for violin, percussion and voices (Colligare, 2003) which was written for a modern dance production. Sòsia, Italian for ‘counterpart,’ is yet another look at this music, this time set for violin and piano. I have had the good fortune to work closely with violinist Ben Sung throughout all of these projects, and it is to him and pianist Ji-Hye Chang that I dedicate this ‘counterpart’ to Testament and Colligare.
Written for and dedicated to Ben Sung and Ji-Hye Chang Sung.
