[vln, vc, pno]
Timing: 16’00”
Program note:
Listening to this piece should leave one unsettled; the gestures are intuitive, rough, and unrefined, and not at all rational or apologetic. At the same time, however, there is a sense of a deliberate statement which is whole and complete–without need for further revision, no matter how ‘rough and unrefined’ it may seem.
Testament should be heard as emotionally close to real life. There are moments that are beautiful yet imperfect; those that are sad, yet contain the promise of future joy; moments that are harsh, yet understandable; chaotic, yet organized; scary, yet exciting. Each contradiction has a natural beauty through its struggle for balance. This struggle, this search, is the testament.
